Why Become a Member?

The Washington Township Land Trust of Morris County was established in 1991 to protect and preserve the natural and historic integrity of where we live. The Trust is a 501(c)3 all-volunteer, member supported organization. So far, the Trust has acquired and stewards 1,100 acres of preserved landing (in perpetuity) and completed a critical stabilization and engineering project, through grants, towards the restoration of the Obadiah La Tourette Grist Mill in Long Valley.

Our stewardship program continues to flourish with the help of volunteers who monitor our properties, maintain the existing trails and work toward controlling invasive species. Two Eagle Scout projects in Mill Pond Park were completed this year. The Trust’s Deer Management program now includes the Open Space Deer management program for Washington Township. Additionally, we participated in the Washington Township Night Out, the Green Team/Fireworks event, the Pathways of History Tour through Morris County, and again we sponsored a local baseball team.

Our accomplishments have been many, but we still have much to do. We are an active, diverse organization which succeeds only through your support. All donations, large or small, are gratefully appreciated and help offset our ever-growing operating expenses (our insurance alone is $10,000 yearly). If you are unable to make a monetary donation, please consider volunteering. We are in need of folks who have expertise in the Legal Field, Financial and Accounting, Carpentry, Gardening, Computer Skills and Fund Raising.

You already know there are many ways to give back to your community, but becoming a member maximizes your impact and supports a cause whose mission aligns with your beliefs. While serving as a member of a nonprofit, you use your professional skills to help guide and shape an organization over time.

Thank you in advance for your support.
